The patriach, Beverly (Dennis Letts) explains in the opening scene “we have a bargain—she takes pills and I drink” describing his relationship with his wife to the Native American girl he is hiring as a companion housekeeper. He disappears only to commit suicide. All hell breaks loose as the entire family comes to commiserate with mom, Violet, and secrets are revealed.
